For us a child is born, for us a son is given. Isaiah 9: 6

This famous bible verse is our theme for this month. Christmas will be here before we know it and I am not sure I am ready. Preparation has not always been my strong suit. I always think of a lot of great things to do during the ramp up to Christmas. Decorating the house, planning large meals, traveling to visit friends and family, the whole thing can get to be a little overwhelming and ultimately depressing.

I forget the theme, for us a child is born, for us a son is given.

The Son who is given of course is the Baby Jesus. Born for humanity the Son of God humbles himself and comes to earth, not to dominate, but to save. A feeding trough will be His cradle. The great hosts of heaven, the angels, and the lowest of the low, shepherds, will herald and welcome him. Before He is born, He will be rejected (no room in the inn), and yet kings will travel thousands of miles across a burning dessert to worship Him and bring Him gifts. The contrast is incredible. The son who is given comes for our hearts and our hearts alone. The reason for the season is this one and only gift. The Baby Jesus.

When we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of this season, may I humbly suggest that we all just stop....take a breath....and be embraced by the knowledge that for us a child is born, for us a Son is given.

My prayer for you all is that this Christmas is full of the joy of the Christ child. I am so proud to be your pastor.
