The cycle of life needs rest, and so do humans

How can it be possible that November is here already!? With the colder temperatures also comes Thanksgiving and then Christmas. The harvest is coming to an end and soon the ground will rest and be restored during the winter months. I love autumn. Things come to their natural conclusion. The cycle of life needs rest, and so do humans. Winter should be a time for rest and yet we find ways to fill our days with activity. The pursuit of things can sometimes lead us away from God, who pursues us at an unending and unchanging pace.

We encounter God during the winter months. The promised child is born, and the world is made whole by the gift of a Savior. This incarnation of the Godself is awesome to consider. The gift given is one of Grace and Life and Abundance. With Thankful hearts our voices are raised in song to give praise and glory to the One who frees us from sin and death. We are embraced by God especially during the winter, just as sure as the cold northwest wind embraces us during these months.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. There is no pressure of gift giving. There is no pressure to travel and see everyone at parties and gatherings. Thanksgiving is food and family, rest and reflection, warmth and grace.

We are truly blessed. This year I am thankful for many things. I am thankful for family that is healthy and continuing to grow. I am thankful for Sandy and the love we share. I am thankful for my Call and the gift that is sharing the Good News of Jesus in this time and place. Most of all I am thankful for all of you and the confidence and grace you have shown me and my family during these months of transition. We are blessed and I am truly blessed. I am so proud to be your pastor.
