Momentous Changes

Dear Friends in Christ,

The change of the seasons brings with it this year momentous changes in our lives. At the time of this writing the last service of closure at Calvary has not been decided but the date will be figured out soon. The Holy Spirit through the members of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church has issued a call to me to be the full-time pastor. I humbly accept the responsibility entrusted to me. We need to pause during these days and be thankful to God that we have found each other, and together we will be moving forward as a people of God. Sandy and I are grateful to be in your midst as beloved children of God.

We should never underestimate the power of the Gospel of Jesus as the Holy Spirit directs us to new ventures to build up the Kingdom. I have always felt a sense of urgency in my ministry. I recognize that I am not getting any younger and that I came into the ministry later in life, so urgency has always been my way of operating. I appreciate the fact however that God wants us to tap the brakes a bit. When we commit ourselves and our congregation to the mission of the Gospel we should only do so after thought reflection, prayer, and study. Intentionality based on listening to the Holy Spirit and each other will be the best way for us to serve the Gospel.

I appreciate the leadership of the council at Christ as they take care of the "business" of the church. This fact frees me up to be the pastor, the proclaimer of the Gospel, and the pastoral caregiver in our community. I appreciate beyond words the blessing that is Katie and Courtney Eckel as they accept the reigns of the office and provide a great ministry to our community. Tom Haubert is a devoted friend and a fellow minister of the Gospel with me. Christ Lutheran is grateful for Tom's dedication and professionalism. Kathy Sinnot leads the newsletter, and I am grateful for her efforts. Lou Coger is such a blessing from God. Her dedication, her good thoughts and her smile make my job so much easier. I am grateful beyond words for our staff. The Holy Spirit has called all of these folks to do this work with me.

The Spirit is alive at Christ. I am excited about this new beginning and I am so proud to be your pastor.

Peace,

Pastor Bob
